On the nose, vanilla dominates. Rye candy (to me, this is a balance of coconut, seagrass, and sugarcane sweetness), typical rye spice, oak, and a little orange join in on the fun. It feels very well rounded, with a good balance of sweets, spice, oak, and potency. On the palate, grape and blackberry join vanilla in a great fruit medley, dominating the forefront before giving way to vanilla bean, rye candy, nutmeg, and sweet oak. The finish is medium length and primarily vanilla, sugarcane, and a lingering grape. This barrel was named for its bourbon friendly qualities "checking and balancing" the rye
